Employee directory, on the worked example

Three sheets: one for the chart, one for the directory behind it, and one for the lines nobody draws solid. The organizational chart planner is the shape: headcount divided by the span plus one is the managers, the people at the top times the span twice over is how far three layers reach, and the redraws times the minutes each takes times the hourly cost is what keeping it current by hand costs a year. The employee directory sheet is the cost of not having one: headcount times lookups a week times fifty-two over twelve is the lookups a month, times the minutes each takes is the hours, times the hourly cost is the bill. The dotted line reporting sheet is the load: the share of people with a second manager times the lines each carries is the dotted lines on the chart, and those times the check-in minutes over the weeks between them is what the matrix costs in standing meetings. Every figure is worked from what you enter, and the arithmetic is printed beside each answer.

These sheets have no constants. Every number is worked from the figures you enter: the headcount, the span of control, the people at the top, the contractors, the redraws and the minutes each takes, the profile fields and how complete they are, the lookups a week, the minutes a lookup takes, the hourly costs, the joiners and leavers, and the dotted-line share, count, check-in length and interval. The defaults are one 120-person company's worked example, not a benchmark this site publishes.
